MPS names 2009 Valedictorians and Salutatorians

    Valedictorians and salutatorians from 45 MPS high schools pose after recognition ceremonies.
 

MILWAUKEE – Preps On The Net prides itself on posting student stories highlighting both academic and athletic achievement.

This month, 45 Milwaukee Public High Schools named valedictorians and salutatorians for their 2009 graduation ceremonies.

Graduating seniors with the highest and second- highest grade point averages receive the honor.  

Eight MPS high schools named multiple valedictorians and salutatorians because students were tied in grade points.

At Milwaukee Rufus King and Milwaukee Riverside both had a five-way tie; the schools graduated five valedictorians during their June 2 commencement. Four students from Milwaukee Custer also tied for honors.

“These are our future leaders,” said MPS Superintendent William Andrekopoulos. “We are proud of our high achievers because they will be the change-agents who will move our world forward.”

Listed below are the names of the 2009 MPS valedictorians and salutatorians:

ALAS High School - Elvia Rivas and Joel Acosta, Alliance School of Milwaukee - Julia Williams and Sophia Jones, Assata High School - Lynda Metcalf and Ebony Maxwell, Bay View High School - Allison Bernier and Alejandro Andrade, Lynde & Harry Bradley Technical & Trade High School - Diamond Hanson and Veronica Holmes, CITIES Project High School - Courtney Hartzog and Tatiana Justiniano, Community High School - Andrew Kou Xiong, Nkaujzouapa Lor and Dominique Strapp, Cornerstone Achievement Academy - Jazmynn Fleming and Alana Bentley, Custer High School - Timothy Thao, Anita Buck, Sherita Clendenen, and Yanira Santos.

D.I.A.L (Downtown Institute of Arts and Letters) High School - Justin Roby, El Puente High School, and Miguel Lopez, Foster and Williams High School of the Visual Arts and Communications - Yeng Thao and Myra Davis, Genesis School of Business, Technology/Trade, Health and Human Services - Ja Kimbra White and Brittney Taylor, Grandview High School -  Maria S. Rodriguez and Jennifer Gerena.

Alexander Hamilton High School - Jennifer Jacobsen, Mukul Chawla, and Benjamin Ferenz,  HR Academy - Chenequa Byers and DéVonte Griffin, Kilmer High School - Victoria Marrero.

Rufus King International Baccalaureate High School- Elizabeth Mosier, Talormarie Rudolph, Elizabeth Jazwecki, David Chou, and Nicolaus Caniza, Lady Pitts School Age Parent Program - Va Xiong and Marquica Woods, James Madison Academy -  Nancy Lee and Fabiola Huerta.
