MILWAUKEE- The Milwaukee Rufus King girls basketball team used solid teamwork to beat Milwaukee Bay View Friday night, 68-23.

The Lady Generals (4-0, 6-2) stayed focused on rebounding and limited turnovers.

After winning the tip off, sophomore Alexis Eckles kept the game rolling, by continuously hitting lay-ups and working her way up and down the court.

“We’re improving as a team,” Eckles said.

Eckles was one of the big scorers of the night; the strong rebounding forward finished with 8 points.

Cutting through the Redcats’ defense, King senior Jasmyne Reynolds found her way to the basket and hit multiple 3-pointers, scoring a team-high 14 points.

“We need to work more on our defense” said Reynolds.

Reynolds teamed-up with sophomore Avyanna Young and gave her a chance to rack-up points.

Although Young struggled in the first half, she pulled it together in the last two quarters and finished with 9 points.

“We played relatively well,” head coach Craig Machut said.

Machut was impressed with the girls’ ability to help each other on the court and on the bench.

Machut agreed with Reynolds, there’s always room for improvement, especially on defense.

The Redcats (0-3, 2-7) played a decent game, but struggled with rebounds and making shots after a few quick steals.

Marrenna Cottrell led Milw. Bay View with 8 points.

“We committed a lot of turnovers,” said Redcats head coach Mike Schinner who consistently worked with the girls to become more determined throughout the game.

Schinner said he knew the Redcats played hard and he was proud of them.

GAME NOTES: The Generals are tied with Milw. Vincent in the Milwaukee City Gold Conference; both teams are 4-0 in conference and 6-2 overall.

Milw. King’s next conference game is against Milw. Madison Jan. 21.
