State title rematch voted Game of the Week
Milw. King, Milw. Vincent earn slight edge in fan voting

It was close. Just like their WIAA Division 1 state title game last season the Milwaukee King and Milwaukee Vincent girls basketball teams delivered another thriller in winning this week’s Game of the Week vote. (Discuss this game in the Preps On the Net forum!)

The Milwaukee City Conference showdown will be for sole possession of first place in the conference as both the Generals and the Vikings enter the game with identical 5-0 records in the conference Friday night.

Vincent (10-0), ranked No. 1 in last week’s Associated Press Division 1 poll, has put up some big offensive numbers in past weeks. That is led by 6-foot-6 center Nicole Griffin who is averaging 17.1 points per game. The Oklahoma University recruit will surely be the focus if the Vikings look to continue toward another conference title.

King (9-2), has three players averaging in double figures with Jasmyne Reynolds leading the way with 14.5 points per game. Avayanna Young and Alexis Eckies each add over 10 points per game and give the Generals some variety on offense.

Aside from the two losses which started the season, King has not given up more than 45 points per game and is riding a nine-game winning streak.

King showed last season they were the one team that could hang with Vincent and it will be interesting to see if they can do it again this year.

This game beat out Tuesday’s Wisconsin Little Ten Conference showdown between Wisconsin Lutheran and Beaver Dam by just two percentage points – and a handful of votes.
